An Electronic Arts producer announced an upcoming remaster of the 1990s space flight simulator Wing Commander 3 at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo, Kotaku reported. The announcement came during a retrospective panel at the event. [1]

The project follows the discovery of original full motion video source tapes in the archives of Electronic Arts, according to PC Gamer. Kotaku and PC Gamer both report that the remaster relies on these newly located master tapes of the game's live action sequences. [1][2]

The Wing Commander franchise launched five entries, multiple expansions, and adaptations across books, television, and film, but it has remained largely inactive since around 2000, Kotaku reported. Independent developer Gaia Industries previously released a spin-off title, Wing Commander Arena, on Xbox Live Arcade in July 2007. [1][3]
