Prime Video premiered a new trailer for the upcoming limited series Blade Runner 2099 on Saturday at New York Comic-Con, Deadline, Variety, and Gizmodo reported. The show is created by Silka Luisa and produced with Amazon MGM Studios and Alcon Television Group. Deadline reported that all eight episodes of the series will premier in full on November 25 on the streaming platform. [1][2][3]
According to Variety, Gizmodo, and Polygon, the plot is set 50 years after the events of the movie Blade Runner 2049 in a reborn Los Angeles. The narrative focuses on a fugitive named Cora, played by Hunter Schafer, who takes on the role of a Blade Runner. Variety and Polygon reported that she is forced to team up with Olwen, a near-death Replicant played by Michelle Yeoh. [2][3][4]
Showrunner Silka Luisa stated during the panel that the story takes place after a replicant uprising where creations surpassed their human creators, Gizmodo reported. Polygon added that the trailer highlights a central mystery involving 38 replicants who went missing over the past year. Deadline and Gizmodo noted that the series previously debuted a teaser trailer at San Diego Comic-Con in July before releasing this full-length trailer. [1][3][4]
Blade Runner 2099 is an installment in the Blade Runner franchise, serving as a direct sequel to the feature films Blade Runner from 1982 and Blade Runner 2049 from 2017. The wider franchise is based on the 1968 novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick. [9]
