Netflix is laying off about 1,000 employees worldwide, according to reports from the BBC, Engadget, and The Verge. The job cuts represent roughly six percent of the streaming company's global workforce. The staff reduction marks the largest round of layoffs at the platform since 2022. [1][2][3][4][8][9][10]

The corporate restructuring will primarily hit human resources, legal, product, and technology departments, the BBC and TechCrunch reported. In an internal email obtained by Variety and cited by The Verge, co-chief executive officers Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters stated that executing the company mission requires being disciplined about resources. The platform faces pressure from free video sites such as YouTube and TikTok alongside major industry consolidation, the BBC reported. Business Insider noted that the decisions follow slowing engagement growth and a stagnant stock price. Last month, Ted Sarandos stated at the Bloomberg Screentime summit that Netflix was not growing as fast as he wanted, according to the BBC. [1][2][6][7]

Netflix recorded around $45.2 billion in revenue in 2025 and employed approximately 16,000 people, according to Engadget. The platform amassed over 325 million paid memberships globally by the end of 2025. Engadget noted that the company previously backed away from a bid to acquire Warner Bros. earlier this year.
