Meta's new AI agent Muse has surpassed 5 million downloads in three weeks following its U.S. release, according to reports from Mashable and Social Media Today. Business Insider reported that Public co-CEO Leif Abraham is already using the AI assistant to buy products such as vintage wines and jeans. [1][2][3]

Security researchers found that Muse extracts and compiles detailed files on users' friends, family, partners, and professional contacts, Gizmodo, Mashable, and Social Media Today all reported. According to reporting from Wired cited by Gizmodo and Mashable, independent AI safety researcher Karan Joshi discovered an automated hourly process instructing Muse to create pages for people in a user's life. [2][3][4]

The AI tool can gather information about individuals even if they do not use the Muse application itself, Gizmodo reported. Gizmodo and Social Media Today noted that the system continuously extracts personal contacts and tracks details based on direct interactions with the app. [3][4]

Meta Platforms announced Muse on September 8, 2026, as a personal AI agent designed to perform long-running tasks on behalf of users rather than answering individual queries like a standard chatbot. The assistant launched in the United States across iOS, Android, and web platforms. [10]
