A survey of 1,001 adults has revealed that social media platforms have overtaken traditional television news as the most cited source for news and political information in the United States. The New York Post reported that 59% of respondents regularly receive news from social media, while 55% turn to these platforms specifically for political content. [1]
The findings come from the monthly Flash Report published by Syracuse University's Center for the Creator Economy. According to the New York Post, young adults and black Americans are among the demographics most likely to rely on social media for news coverage. [1]
This shift continues a trend of rising platform news consumption. As FTMQ Creators reported earlier, a Pew Research Center survey found that 20% of American adults regularly consume news on TikTok, with that figure reaching 39% among adults under 30 years old. [3]
