YouTube Shopping has announced a strategic partnership with Chinese e-commerce retailer AliExpress to offer affiliate marketing opportunities for creators, Tubefilter and PR Newswire reported. The agreement expands YouTube Shopping into China's e-commerce market while allowing channels worldwide to tag products. [1][9]
The expansion follows an initial launch in South Korea and extends the affiliate program to four additional markets, Retail Technology Innovation Hub reported. InternetRetailing, Tamebay, and The Malaysian Reserve also reported that the deal brings creator-led commerce and affiliate links to the platform. [2][3][4][5]
AliExpress is owned by Alibaba and achieved profitability in the most recent quarter, Tubefilter reported. Google acquired YouTube in November 2006 for 1.65 billion dollars, and the video platform now sees more than 500 hours of content uploaded every minute. [1][14]
The tie-up is designed to increase the retail footprint of AliExpress in Western markets while expanding the commercial tools available to video creators, according to Tubefilter and AdExchanger. [1][8]
