YouTube is not testing hiding the dislike button for public users, according to a statement given by company spokesperson Kimberly Taylor to The Verge on Wednesday. The clarification follows reports on Tuesday that YouTube appeared to be testing moving the dislike button into a three-dot menu for select viewers, after at least two users shared screenshots on X. While public viewers will retain the standard button placement, YouTube confirmed that it is introducing a new user interface for creators on their own uploaded videos. Under this new layout, the dislike button will be relocated within the creator video view. [1]

Google acquired the video-sharing platform in November 2006 for 1.65 billion dollars in stock. By early 2026, YouTube had grown to roughly 2.7 billion monthly active users, with content creators uploading more than 500 hours of video every minute. [2][3]
